What Is CMYK to HEX Conversion?
CMYK to HEX conversion translates print ink values into the hexadecimal notation used on the web. CMYK describes ink percentages on paper; HEX describes light emitted by a screen. Because the two color models are fundamentally different, the conversion is approximate — but it is essential when a brand's print colors need to appear consistently on a website or digital product.
How CMYK to HEX Works
CMYK is first converted to RGB using the standard formula, then each channel is written as two hexadecimal digits:
cmyk(91, 61, 0, 6)
Normalize: C=0.91, M=0.61, Y=0.00, K=0.06
R = 255 × (1-C) × (1-K) = 21
G = 255 × (1-M) × (1-K) = 94
B = 255 × (1-Y) × (1-K) = 239
Convert each to hex:
21 → 15
94 → 5E
239 → EF
Result: #155EEF

When to Use CMYK to HEX
- Brand implementation: Moving brand colors from print guidelines to websites.
- Digital marketing: Matching print ads to on-screen campaign assets.
- Packaging to e-commerce: Ensuring product page colors match physical packaging.
- Cross-media consistency: Keeping brand colors recognizable across every channel.
Best Practices
Treat the resulting HEX as the closest screen equivalent, not an exact match. Test in the intended context (light mode, dark mode, against other brand colors) and adjust if needed. For critical brand consistency, document both the official CMYK for print and the official HEX or RGB for digital — the two are intentionally different because they target different media.
