CSS Design Tokens (50–900 Scale)

What Is a Design Token Generator?

A design token generator produces a complete set of named color values (tokens) that can be reused across a design system. Unlike a simple palette, design tokens include both the raw color scale (50–900) and semantic aliases (primary, danger, success, background, text) that make the tokens usable in real components.

This tool generates a full 50–900 scale from any base color — the same naming system used by Tailwind CSS, Radix UI and Material Design. Every step has a defined role, so designers and developers know exactly which token to use for each context.

The 50–900 Scale Roles

  • 50–100: Lightest backgrounds and surfaces
  • 200–300: Borders and dividers
  • 400: Disabled states and muted elements
  • 500: The base brand color — used for primary actions
  • 600: Hover state for primary
  • 700–800: Active states and emphasis
  • 900: Darkest shade — for text on light backgrounds
