What Is a Random Color Palette Generator?

A random color palette generator creates sets of colors without any pre-defined harmony rule. Each click produces a new combination — perfect for inspiration, testing design systems with placeholder colors, or finding unexpected pairings you would not have chosen manually.

OmniColor's random palette generator produces five fully random colors per click. Every color is generated independently across the whole 16.7-million-color sRGB space, so no two palettes are ever alike.

How Random Palettes Work

Each click generates five colors by picking a random hue (0–359°), a moderate saturation (55–90%), and a mid-range lightness (40–70%). The saturation and lightness ranges are constrained so the palettes look cohesive and usable — pure random RGB values would produce muddy or unreadable results about half the time.

When to Use Random Palettes

  • Design inspiration: Browse dozens of random palettes to trigger ideas.
  • Placeholder colors: Fill in realistic-looking colors during early wireframes.
  • Testing color systems: Stress-test a design system against arbitrary palettes.
  • Generative art: Use random colors as seeds for procedural design.
  • Learning color theory: Analyze why some random pairs work and others clash.
