What Is Color Blindness?

Color vision deficiency (CVD) affects roughly 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women worldwide. It occurs when one or more types of cone cells in the eye are missing or reduced. The most common types are protanopia (red-blind), deuteranopia (green-blind) and tritanopia (blue-blind).

Why Simulate Color Blindness?

  • Accessibility testing: Ensure your design works for users with CVD.
  • Data visualization: Test whether your charts and graphs are still readable.
  • Redundant encoding: Verify colors aren't the only way to communicate meaning.
  • Color choices: Pick palettes that remain distinguishable across CVD types.
